Feeling Settled in Japan

After four weeks in Nagoya, Japan, we’re starting to feel pretty settled in!

Our little yellow house is feeling more and more like home. It has everything we need to feel comfortable and cozy after a long day at NIS (Nagoya International School). One thing we’re still getting used to is having only a washing machine—no dryer! Every now and then, we head to the laundromat to dry a few things, especially when it’s rainy or when we just don’t want to deal with scratchy towels. 😂

We’ve even figured out the laundromat routine. We know how to use the dryer now, and we discovered that we can do some grocery shopping next door during the 20 minutes it takes for our clothes to dry. Talk about multitasking!

We’re also becoming more confident with public transportation and have figured out how to get to and from the city. That has opened up a whole new world for us to explore. We’ve been having fun trying all kinds of international foods, too—Japanese sushi, Taiwanese food, Indian curry, Japanese pub food at an izakaya, and even Turkish cuisine. So far, everything has been delicious!

We also visited a nearby mall and have discovered that we absolutely love the nearby thrift stores. It’s been fun finding little treasures and getting to know the area around us.

Four weeks in, we’re still learning something new every day, but Nagoya is beginning to feel less like a new place and more like home. We’re excited to see what the next few weeks bring!
